Cultural Kitchen Youth Outreach Program
Celebrates the Cultural Spice of Life! Throughout history and around the globe, people have gathered around a meal to meet, to plan, to settle disputes, to make friendships, and build community. In that spirit of understanding, HI-Chicago established the Cultural Kitchen Youth Outreach program.
An educational youth outreach program that teaches high school students from Chicago’s often segregated and culturally isolated neighborhoods to build pride around their own culture, while opening their minds to learn about a new neighborhood and culture of their peers.
What is it like to live in your neighborhood? The Community Expressions program asks youth this question and gives them the opportunity to respond through original creative expression. Throughout the process, participants learn to appreciate their own and their community’s cultural heritage and become ready to share experiences with people beyond these borders.
Girl Scout Troops
Hostelling engenders a spirit of adventure, interaction, and discovery. Hostels provide a setting that is safe, clean, environmentally sensitive, comfortable, and friendly. Troop leaders will find hostel stays are easy to plan, affordable, and fun. Troops find hostels to be a great place to build friendships, develop a sense of community, and meet international travelers. HI-Chicago offers an array of program options to add to your adventure.
What better time to dive into the world of hostels and travel then at a young age? Culture Quest programs are specifically designed to meet the needs of middle school aged students by introducing them to the benefits of hostelling. Culture Quest focuses on building cultural awareness and intercultural communication skills for Chicago youth.
