Annual Martin Luther King, Jr. Mural Competition
Until Justice Rolls Down Like Water
Hostelling International Chicago, in collaboration with The Peace Museum, Columbia College and The School of the Art Institute of Chicago, is once again hosting annual competition for art students in Chicago honoring the life and work of Martin Luther King, Jr.
Ten artists have been invited to create murals to be painted on the second floor windows of the hostel at Congress and Wabash. The artists participating in this year's competition are:

- Mun-Jung Chang Park, The School of the Art Institute of Chicago, '08
- Carla Paynter, The School of the Art Institute of Chicago, '08
- Kaitlynn Radloff, The School of the Art Institute of Chicago, '10
- Jessica Tam, The School of the Art Institute of Chicago, ''08
The artist whose work best captures the theme of the exhibition will be awarded a First Place Prize of 3 nights' accomodation at HI-San Francisco, Downtown and $250 airfare voucher. A Second Place Prize of 2 nights' at HI-Madison and transportation voucher and a Third Place Prize of a $50 gift certificate to Brudno Art Supply will also be awarded. Jurors from the Peace Museum, Columbia College, The School of the Art Institute of Chicago and Hostelling International Chicago will evaluate the final artwork to determine the prizewinners.
The installation will coincide with The Peace Museum's "Until Justice Rolls Down Like Waters" exhibition, which features work that depict the life and work and Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. and Coretta Scott King. Pieces from the Museum's permanent collection will be featured at the hostel with the students' artwork.
Public Viewing
An artists' reception in on Martin Luther King, Jr. Day, Monday, January 21, 2008 from 5pm to 7pm. The artists will describe their work and the winners of First, Second, and Third Place Prize will be announced. The event is free and open to the public.
The "Until Justice Rolls Down Like Waters" exhibition will be on display from January 10- March 10, 2008, at Hostelling International Chicago, 24 East Congress Parkway. The exhibition is free and open to the public for viewing between 9am and 9pm, seven days a week.
