Hostelling International Chicago

Annual Martin Luther King, Jr. Mural Competition

2012 Exhibition Now Open through March

Hostelling International Chicago, in collaboration with The School of the Art Institute of Chicago, is pleased to host the 6th Annual Martin Luther King, Jr. Mural Competition, honoring the life and work of Dr. King and the continuing struggle for civil rights today.

Student artists were selected to create individual murals on the 2nd floor windows of Hostelling International Chicago. The artists intalled their work throughout the first two weeks of January.

A special reception took place on Martin Luther King, Jr. Day, during which artists discussed their work and prizes were announced. Congratulations to our Competition winners:

  • Chanel C. Thomas, First Place Prize
  • Marc Socie, Second Place Prize
  • Ellie Jung, Third Place Prize

The reception also featured performances and an open-mic hosted by Louder Than A Bomb poets.
